George Washington Equestrian

Statue. Located on the Capitol grounds

and unveiled in 1858. Confederate

President Jefferson Davis gave his

inaugural speech in front of the statue

in 1861. At the close of the Civil War

President Abraham Lincoln visited

Richmond and gave an impromptu

speech in front of  the statue to recently

freed African Americans shortly before

he was assassinated on April 1865
